Jack Healey Commentary September 3rd, 2019

Interesting week #1 in high school football as I went 10-4.
Rutland with an impressive 64-6 victory over CVU on the road. Hunter Postemski rushed for 115 yards on 21 carries and 3 touchdowns. Fans might recall that Postemski had a great opening game last year against Brattleboro subbing for eventual Shrine player Dakota Peters.
Also it was an impressive debut for Raider quarterback Owen Perry who threw for a touchdown and rushed for a touchdown. He has the quarterback gene as Owen is the son of former Fair Haven and Plymouth State star quarterback Joel Perry. Owen is also the grandson of former Fair Haven and Otter Valley varsity head football coach Dennis Perry.
St. Johnsbury with an impressive 38-19 victory over Essex. Both CVU and Essex might not be big tests, but the Hilltoppers and the Raiders will be a big test for each other in week #2 this Friday night at Rutland’s Alumni Field. We will have the game for you on Rock 945 at 6:45 PM.
Perennial Division 3 powers Woodstock and Windsor both took it on the chin in their openers and even though it’s only one game we shouldn’t be conceding anything to the Wasps or the Yellow Jackets!

Castleton blanked Norwich 1-0 in womens college soccer as Mill River’s Rylee Nichols scored the “Golden Goal” with 15 seconds left in overtime. Fair Haven’s Julia Carone with the assist and Rutland’s Loren Henderson with the shutout. Loren was named the Little East Conference goalkeeper of the week.

Congratulations going out to Castleton University “Super Fans” Rich and Nancy Glasscock who will both be among the inductees to the Castleton Sports Hall of Fame on October 12th. Well deserved!
