Jack Healey Commentary January 11th, 2019

It’s the divisional round in the NFL with two games tomorrow and two games coming up on Sunday.
After going 0-4 last week my record is now 156-88.
Here goes:
On Saturday
Kansas City over Indianapolis
LA Rams over Dallas
On Sunday
NE Patriots over LA Chargers
New Orleans over Philadelphia
Rutland native Jenny Everett who played college field hockey at Wake Forest is one of the new members of the Vermont Sports Hall of Fame. She was the first field hockey player to be inducted into the Wake Forest Hall of Fame in 2013. Check out her induction speech at Wake Forest. It is one of the greatest speeches I’ve ever heard. It is spectacular! You can listen to it right here on wsyb1380am.com.
Another inductee to the Vermont Sports Hall of Fame is Burlington’s Jeff Hughes. Hughes was the punter on two straight national championship teams at Nebraska in the early 70’s. Hughes holds the Vermont state record in the 100 yard dash at 9.8 seconds. It is a record that will stand forever because there is no longer a 100 yard dash and is now 100 meters.

Jenny Everett will be my guest on WSYB Sports Talk tomorrow at 9:15. I will also be talking with Mike Donaghue who is the communications director of the Vermont Sports Hall of Fame.

Next week on Sports Talk my guest will be Bill Rohr who was a member of the 1967 Boston Red Sox and came within one out of pitching a no hitter against the Yankees in his major League debut.

2nd baseman Brian Dozier signed a one year contract with the Washington Nationals  and infielder Jed Lowrie signed a two year contract with the Mets. I sort of thought the Red Sox would be interested in either one as insurance in case Dustin Pedroia doesn’t come back at 100%. I’m no doctor, but if Pedroia lasts the whole season I would be shocked.

The gym at MSJ is called the Martin McDonough Gym and it should be, but the court at MSJ is called the Lenny Burke Court as it was dedicated to former star player Lenny Burke a couple of years ago. Lenny passed away this past July.  Newspaper accounts of games at MSJ only make reference to the McDounough Gym, but they should make reference to the Lenny Burke Gym as well. When I read the account of an MSJ game that is broadcast on WSYB I always make reference to the McDounough Gym and the Lenny Burke Court.
