Jack Healey Commentary September 5th, 2018

One of the great things about covering sports in Vermont are the connections from one generation to another as well as the geographic connections from one end of the state to another.
Another such connection is the story of CVU junior quarterback Ryan Anderson. Ryan wears #7, the same number his dad Aaron Anderson wore at MSJ. Aaron who passed away a year ago, wore #7 as a football and hockey player at MSJ in the late 80’s. Ryan’s mom, the former Missy Eagan, was a standout soccer and basketball player at MSJ in the late 80’s and early 90’s. She was a former womens soccer assistant coach at Appalachian State in Boone, North Carolina. The family lived in North Carolina, but Ryan now lives with his uncle Seth Anderson and his wife Sera in Charlotte, Vermont and is a student at CVU. Seth is also an MSJ grad and former hockey player who recently won medalist honors at the famous Pierce Golf Tournament in Rutland. Sera Anderson is the reigning Mrs. Vermont 2018 and was also Mrs. Vermont in 2014. She was born in Korea and was adopted when she was 9 months old and grew up in Brookfield, Vermont and graduated from Randolph Union High School.
Ryan Anderson’s grandfather Carl Anderson, who now lives in South Carolina and watches CVU football on nsnsports.net, played football at Rutland High and was All-State in 1960. He played college football at Allegheny College in Pennyslvania. Ryan’s great grandfather Axel Anderson was a football team manager at the University of Pittsburgh in the 1920’s and when he was a junior the Pitt football coach was the legendary Pop Warner. I think this is a neat story. Don’t you? The Rutland vs. CVU game will be broadcast on Rock 94.5 on Friday night starting at 6:45.
