Jack Healey Commentary August 13th, 2018

The Travis Roy Foundation Wiffle Ball Tournament wrapped up yesterday at “Little Fenway”,”Little Wrigley” and “Little Field of Dreams” on the Essex/Jericho line. A record $617,634 was raised for the foundation for its research in spinal cord injuries. Travis Roy was paralyzed from the neck down just 11 seconds into his college hockey career at Boston University in 1995. Travis’ dad Lee played hockey at UVM and is a UVM Hall of Famer.
There were teams from as far away as Alabama entered in the three day tournament.There was a team of Boston University alums including Boston Bruins stars Charlie McAvoy and Matt Grzelcyk and Jack Eichel of the Buffalo Sabres and there were two teams from the Rutland including the “Blue Bulls” who won the championship on a walk-off homer by Rutland’s Patrick Collins in the last of the 8th. Patrick is Travis Roy’s cousin. In the 17 years of the tournament over 5 million dollars has been raised for the Travis Roy Foundation.
It was a wonderful weekend!
