The WSYB Sports Talk Show this past Saturday was fantastic. It was great radio with our guest legendary pitcher Tommy John.
He has won 288 games and isn’t in the Hall of Fame. As an example Don Drysdale won 209 games and Pedro Martinez won 214 games and they’re both in the Hall of Fame. Tommy John takes the omission in stride.
He also talked about “Tommy John surgery”. He doesn’t get paid one penny for the surgery being named after him either. Our callers were great too. None of the crap you get on facebook or twitter. Those people generally don’t have the courage to participate in talk shows. It’s tough when you actually have to sound intelligent.
Tommy John will be playing in his 20th Pierce Golf Tournament in August. John’s partner many times has been Jim Kaat, another former major league pitcher who lives in Manchester, Vermont.
Our next big time guest sometime in the future will be Joe Bellino who often visits the Rutland area. He won the Heisman Trophy at Navy in 1960. Isn’t Talk Radio fun?
Glad the Celtics signed Gordon Hayward. Contrary to what you might think signing Hayward was “Plan A” for the Celtics.
Remember everything else was speculation. This is what I’ve said before :
Only Paul George if you can sign him long term. What’s the point if you trade for a player that you only get for one year. Celtics offered more than OKC did and it didn’t work out. If you don’t sign him beyond next year it’s a worthless trade.
Would’ve liked Jimmy Butler, but he was traded elsewhere so nothing you can do about that.
Blake Griffin went back to LA Clippers. He’s injury proned and I didn’t want him. Can’t do much about a player who signs on with his former team anyway.
Obviously signing Hayward doesn’t guarantee anything, but it made sense for him to sign with a team in the East. Most of the major deals to this point have been in the West.
Nobody is going to touch Golden State for a few years anyway, but you have to at least try to close the gap a little bit.
How many big time free agents have the Celtics signed? I think like two, Al Horford last year and Gordon Hayward this year.
I think Danny Ainge did just fine this off season. Thank you!
It looks like Chris Sale will be the starter in the All Star game for the American League as the rotation lines up perfectly for that to happen. Why is any Red Sox fan excited for that to happen? Not me! I rather see him rest plus he won’t be starting in the first game of the Yankees series after the break either.
