Thus completes a hectic high school spring season with the completion of the last three state title games.
The season isn’t very long and a lot of stuff gets squeezed in a short period of time especially the playoffs.
First congratulations to West Rutland in high school softball for winning the Division 4 championship. This outstanding group of senior athletes finally got their state championship. They had come so close over their careers in other sports, but this time got through the state championship door with a gutty 7-6 win over Whitchester.
Kudos by the way to the folks in Poultney. I was at all four of the championship games and the tournament as usual ran to perfection.
Congratulations to Otter Valley for winning the Division 2 state championship in high school baseball. Otter Valley has a great baseball tradition.
Also congratulations to Middlebury for winning the Division 1 girls lacrosse championship. Middlebury defeated Mt. Anthony 10-8 in a battle of unbeatens.
The state decathlon championships are coming up, but the high school season is over!
As the song says “See You In September!”
The NBA and NHL seasons are finally over too. I said Golden State in 6, they won in 5 and I said Nashville in 6, but Pittsburgh won in 6.
Hasn’t the Yankees’ Aaron Judge been something? He’s another Babe Ruth. I was watching live when he hit that 495 foot home run at Yankee Stadium. As Jack Buck once said ” I can’t believe what I just saw!!” Yankee fan or not he is just fun to watch!
